Coralline Algae

| Coralline algae is a calcifying algae that grows
throughout a healthy system. Patches of it can be seen on the glass
behind the rock in the foreground of the photograph above. In Reef 1
predation from Monster the Longspine Urchin limits its spread. I
found a thick colony on a small piece of live rock in the QT and
"transplanted" it into Reef 1 on May 20, 2006, hoping it could evade the
urchin and create a thicker growth to cement the rocks together and make a
beautiful pink formation. It can be seen just in the center of the
photograph above, sandwiched between the flat rock on which it grew and a
lobe on the rock into which I have wedged it. Stay tuned... |
