No news is good news. Algae is still a little out of control, but it
is getting better.

Got some reasonably good photos today. The new fish are fine.
The ViaAqua 8000 pump sounds a little labored so I am a little worried it
has been stressed by the changes. I have a Mag 24 to put in place at
some point. I plan to make them redundant when I add my additional
plumbing for the 110 to be moved downstairs with the 150 and the new 30
Extra Tall that will house the 'horses.

Today I finally committed to converting from my old sump, which was
inflexible because it could not be drilled, to a new sump that used to be
the QT. It is plumbed to an auxiliary sump which will absorb about 20
additional gallons, but I think I will need to build an additional failsafe
before I can absolutely prevent flooding in the event of an extended power
outage.

I brought home a Mag 3 pump and two new fish. The Hector's Goby eats
algae and sifts sand for microverts. The Bicolor Blenny is a more
colorful version of the Rock Blenny. My son dubbed the Hector's Goby
"Dexter." The Bicolor Blenny is still waiting for a name. I
didn't QT them because Koninon the Yellow Tang is in there, and there's not
sufficient sand to feed the Goby. I just have confidence a hardy fish
like the Blenny coming from a LFS with a good reputation is going to be safe
enough. We'll see...

Happy St. Valentine's Day! I moved from Reef 1 to Lagoon 1 a shrimp
that was sold to me as a Peppermint Shrimp (Lysmata wurdemanni)
but which I believe is L. rathbunae.

I moved the old acropora frag from Reef 1 into a permanent position atop the
largest piece of lace rock in Lagoon 1, next to and above the candy cane.
I hope the acropora has a high enough profile and is secure enough (using
AquaMend) to resist damage from Monster the Longspine Urchin. |
